SPARTA, NJ, UNITED STATES, June 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ZD Stucco Repair has completed a comprehensive exterior restoration of Lake Mohawk Country Club, a landmark 1930 clubhouse located in Sparta, New Jersey.

The historic building is part of a district listed on both the National and New Jersey historic registers. It serves as the central gathering place for the Lake Mohawk community, hosting weddings, banquets, meetings and community events throughout the year.

The project began after areas of failing and delaminated stucco raised concerns about moisture intrusion and deterioration beneath the exterior surface. As work progressed, the restoration team identified several age-related conditions that required more extensive repairs than a standard stucco resurfacing project.

ZD Stucco Repair opened selected sections of the exterior to evaluate the materials behind the stucco. The team found localized deteriorated wood, uneven wall surfaces and original construction details that required careful reconstruction.

Unlike many modern buildings, portions of the clubhouse were constructed with individual wood boards installed in a traditional angled pattern rather than conventional sheets of plywood or oriented strand board. To maintain compatibility between the historic structure and the new work, the team sourced appropriate wood materials and reconstructed the affected areas using methods that closely followed the original installation.

The restoration also involved correcting uneven exterior surfaces and rebuilding selected wall areas to create a more consistent plane while preserving the character of the historic structure.

Major cracks in the solid concrete chimney were repaired by resurfacing the affected areas with reinforced base coat and embedded fiberglass mesh. A new stucco finish was then applied and matched to the existing texture as closely as possible.

Around the building’s windows and transitions between wood and stucco, deteriorated sealant was removed and replaced with a material selected to bond properly to both surfaces. These details were important for reducing future moisture intrusion and helping the restored exterior perform as a complete system.

After the wood repairs, crack remediation, sealing and stucco restoration were completed, the exterior was finished with elastomeric stucco coating to provide a consistent appearance across the building.

The completed scope became a full exterior restoration rather than a limited repair. It included repairs throughout the building, chimney resurfacing, localized wood replacement, stucco reconstruction, crack reinforcement, window sealing, texture matching and exterior painting.

The clubhouse’s lakeside location also exposes the exterior to ongoing wind, moisture and changing weather conditions. These factors made proper material selection, sealing and water management especially important during the restoration.

Because Lake Mohawk Country Club remained active throughout the project, ZD Stucco Repair carefully coordinated its working hours and access areas around the club’s daily operations. The building continued to serve employees, members, visitors and scheduled events while the work was underway.

Sabine Watson, General Manager of Lake Mohawk Country Club, said the company communicated consistently and worked around the facility’s demanding schedule. “ZD Stucco Repair has always been very prompt and attentive in communicating concerns, requesting information and keeping the project on track,” Watson said.

She also noted that the crew was polite, courteous and welcoming to staff and community members throughout the project.

The restoration was completed as Lake Mohawk prepares to celebrate its centennial in 2027. The clubhouse is expected to serve as a central location for anniversary events throughout the year.

Watson described the clubhouse as the “gemstone structure” of the Lake Mohawk community and emphasized the responsibility of preserving the building according to the standards and character of its original construction.

“For a historic building, successful restoration is not only about how the finished surface looks,” Zoltan Dicso, Founder of ZD Stucco Repair, said. “It is about understanding what is behind it, correcting the source of the problem and rebuilding it in a way that respects the original structure.”
